From Manipur they came
            to dance Priyadarshi’s transformation

When he returned victorious
riding his bull elephant

bleeding corpses moaned
To silence them he unleashed destruction

It usurped the kingdom
the stones bled   the walls wailed

Unceasing nightmares
made him a terror to himself

One day he met a meditating monk
whose tranquility no horror could unseat

By practice under the wheel of time
his devils calmed down

He became benevolent   a ruler
to inspire singing in the heart

Destruction roared at him
then went elsewhere
